Brownings Named World Scotch Pie Champions
We’ve only gone and done it…we’ve won the big one! At the 18th annual World Scotch Pie Championships this week we were crowned World Scotch Pie Champions!
Brownings swept the board coming away with an impressive 7 awards including:
- World Champion: Scotch Pie
- Diamond Award for Vegetarian Savoury: Sweet Potato & Lentil Korma Pie
- Silver Award for Hot Savoury: Steak and Black Pudding Pie
- Bronze Award for Football Pie: Steak & Ale Football Pie, Ayr United
- Bronze Award for Bridie: Belter Steak Bridie
- Bronze Award for Steak Pie (Hand Held): Kilmarnock Pie
- Bronze Award for Hot Savoury: All Day Breakfast Bridie
Following one of the busiest judging days ever with some 100 butchers and bakers entering over 500 pies, pasties, sausage rolls, bridies, savouries and apple pies into the competition and with some 300 hopefuls attending the awards luncheon in Cumbernauld, Brownings the Bakers of Kilmarnock are truly proud to have produced the best Scotch Pie in the land.
Our Managing Director John Gall said, “I am absolutely over the moon with this award, in fact I was almost speechless! I’m sure it will have a great positive impact on the business. I need to say a huge well done to each and every member of the Brownings team who continue to help make the business a success. I thought a few years ago that nothing would top winning the Best Football Pie for the Kilmarnock Pie but this award has. It’s a big one for us and it will hopefully have a knock on effect and boost sales in our shops. I always think consistency, quality and service gets you there in the end and this award shows that.”
John won’t divulge any secrets of how they make the award winning Scotch Pie at his bakery in Kilmarnock. Coming from a family run craft bakers with over 70 years heritage that is a secret, but he did say that Brownings are consistently looking at their range and how to improve products and that the Scotch Pie has had some tweaks done to it recently. Brownings have entered the World Scotch Pie Championship for 18 years and with 2017 being our year, we are planning on building on the success this award with bring.
